Nicholas Sparks in Charlotte Thursday

Bestselling author Nicholas Sparks ("The Notebook," "Nights in Rodanthe") signs copies of his new novel, "The Best of Me," at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at Barnes & Noble in The Arboretum, 3327 Pineville-Matthews Road.

The latest novel from the master of the heart-tugging love story, "The Best of Me" is the tale of two former high-school sweethearts from the opposite sides of the tracks.

Sparks, by the way, is a Tar Heel. He lives in New Bern with his family.

I met him a few years ago, and was quite unimpressed. Was very pompous and ungrateful.

I have heard from several people that went to a book signing that Nicholas Sparks is not very nice when you meet him, he can be rude & pompous. So if his excuse is that he was having a bad day, he must have a lot of them! You should never let your popularity or money make your forget that it is your fans that got you there.

I'm from New Bern and have family still living there. We know Mr. Sparks personally and can say without reservation he is absolutely approachable, unassuming and very personable. Nice man, great family. Never been to a big book signing in a city like CLT so maybe in that context, individual experiences may vary. But the entire town of New Bern, literally, knows and has experienced his honest generosity. He built the local high school a track and field complex, and coaches kids in his free time. Do some web searches and then speak. You should be wary of defaming someone like him, let alone one of his resources and ready access to lawyers. -- and I am NOT the anonymous poster above.

Because Nick Sparks is so into himself, I highly doubt he posted on this page. He's a great writer, but needs to hone his people skills.

We New Bernians have every right to be snobs. Too bad for you!

@ 8:04 pm, he's a public figure, and cannot sure over some anonymous, personal opinion posted on the internet.
