Literacy cockroach comes to town

As I post this item, I freely admit that it's less about literacy and more about a guy trying to sell T-shirts. Still, when I get a photo of a guy dressed up as a cockroach, it seems a darned shame not to share it with readers.
The deal is this: Kafkacotton, a company that sells literary-themed T-shirts -- is bringing its mascot, Gregor the cockroach, to UNC Charlotte's campus, noon-4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Gregor, inspired by the main character in Franz Kafka's "The Metamorphosis" plans to pose with students and give away Kafkacotton T-shirts "while raising literacy awareness," according to Kafkacotton's press release. The company donates 5 percent of its proceeds to literacy efforts.

Hi Pam, thanks very much for mentioning us! I totally agree that we're primarily about creating new, compelling t-shirts - that's what our core community cares about. Many other businesses would have said that bringing together readers counted as their "good deed" but that wasn't enough for me. 5% of our proceeds does not make us a philanthropic organization by any means but I know we're doing good and feel great about that :) (and walking around as a cockroach passing out bookmarks is pretty fun, too!)
